Biking is his passion: One of Coccaro’s chef waiters Enzo would spent every free minute on two wheels. His pasttime goes as far as taking clients (such as good friends) on his extended tours throughout Puglia. Those seem to appreciate the special service of their favorite waiter a lot. Today and over the upcoming weekend he won’t be on duty in masseria though: He’s taking part in the “Italian Ciclocross championship” in nearby Pezze di Greco. A big and somewhat dirty event Enzo has been exercising for all winter. He’ll be dealing with 12 different races (and 24 titles) on a 2850 m course. The challenge, apart from pure partecipation, is to compete with really big names in the business. Ex world champion Vito Di Tano (bottom foto) from Monopoli is organizing the race in his home region which adds a special twist. Let’s keep fingers crossed!! For all those of you who share the passion and don’t care too much about competition: Don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ll make sure Enzo will be yours for some unforgetable tour.
Finally fall in Puglia! One of the most beautiful seasons in the South of Italy, especially for the intense colours, fresh frutis like prickley pears or vegetables like brokkoli growing just about everywhere. The days are getting shorter: The sun sets around 5 pm, offering tremendous sunsets on the hills towards the Itria Valley. We recommend to go on one of our guided gourmet bike tours to explore the beautiful lush fields or one of the fishing villages around the masserias. Our bikes are ready: Just check with our reception desk, they’ll tell you all the whereabouts.
Ever wondered where our yummie cheese buffets at the breakfast buffet are from?
We proudly present: Lamapecora, a cheesefarm no more than 3 kms away. We’ll be happy to take you there by bike just to try freshly made ricotta cheese, to watch the son on the family preparing mozzarella of any shape and to have a chat with the owner family who has been running the large farm estate for many years. For families we recommend a hike around the farm: The kids will be able to experience a zoo of another kind! They’ll watch piglets play in the mud, newly born calfs trying their first steps and a herd of sheep of any kind and colour mooing and munching. Not to forget 101 cute little kittens running about the farm… A fabulous place!
Puglia is a great destination for bikers, professionals as well as pure fun cyclists. There are interesting and highly challenging up- and downhill tracks all around the masseria, heading towards the Itria valley for example; or stunning coastal roads with hardly any traffic passing.
Enzo, one of our head waiters who has been crossing the entire country on two wheels, will be happy to help you work out a suitable tour for your needs and fitness levels. If you’re really lucky he’ll invite you along on one of his own private tours… Attention though, Enzo is not so much of a fun rider, he’ll be taking it seriously!
He just published his research for the best pasta in the world, an extraordinary trip all around Italy (“Meine Suche nach der besten Pasta der Welt”):
Stefan Maiwald (film+ foto, left), german writer and Coccaro guest, found inspiration not only while doing cooking school (where he learnt how to make pasta and other famous puglia dishes) but also on the Maizza Driving Range. Whenever he had a free minute he would exchange Golf tips with our Pro, Giulio Grippa (foto, right). Apart from Giulio and our greenkeepers Maiwald is probably the one who knows our 9 hole golf course best. Here’s his judgement: “My golf tip for Maizza: Dial in your mid-irons. Especially on holes no. 2, 6, and 7, you don’t have much room for error. Also, some greens are heavily undulated. You better hit the right plateau, or you’re in three-putt-country.”
Spring is BIKE SEASON season in Puglia! Coccaro Maitre Enzo, one of the most passionate (and successful!) bikers in Puglia, invites you to join him around the hills of northern Salento. He’ll be happy to show you the most scenic tours, beautiful and lonely streets and secret places and lookouts for the most spectacular views.
Masseria Torre Coccaro and Masseria Torre Maizza are two five stars luxury resorts of Puglia, Italy. Not two ordinary luxury resorts, but two authentic 500 years old manor houses remodelled with high architectural standards and respect for historical heritage.
Surrounded by centuries-old olive trees, enhanced by exclusive pools (some suites have private ones), Aveda SPA, botanical gardens, the zero impact Coccaro Golf Club, manège, top level restaurants and many other amenities, our ancient estates are like a small town, nevertheless a unique and loving family!
In the center of Puglia we take care of a part of your heart.
